PLENARY#1 - Playing the cards right for Europe’s industrial competitiveness

In an era defined by geopolitical volatility, rising inflation, and urgent climate imperatives, Europe must play its cards right to tackle a pivotal challenge: securing resilient, carbon neutral value chains and industrial competitiveness as a whole. In an increasingly electrified economy these objectives can be achieved. But, to strengthen Europe’s competitiveness the business community, the energy industry and politics must pull in the same direction. A consensus is needed, as fast change is required and none of the issues can be solved on their own. What are the solutions at hand to navigate current and future pressure points? How to leverage Europe’s Green and Clean Industrial Deals to break unhealthy dependencies on external suppliers, create market opportunities and ensure long-term sustainability? And ultimately, what collaborative actions can be taken to accelerate the transition towards electrification and enhance industrial supply chain resilience for a thriving European economy?

How to Close the Investment Gap for DSOs

Eurelectric’s Grids for Speed study demonstrated that electricity infrastructure investment will need to reach between 55 and 67 billion euros annually in order for the necessary upgrades and optimisation to be made so DSOs may deliver their part of the energy transition. With such high investment needed across Europe, it’s clear that financing these investments will require innovative solutions to supplement traditional private funding mechanisms. Join us for a discussion on the role of public and private financing of electricity infrastructure investment.

New energy demand drivers: The role of data centers in Europe

Over the past few years, the role of Data Centers in the broader European Union (EU) energy system has sparked significant interest among industry and policy makers. According to the International Energy Agency, in 2024 “data centers account for around 1% of global electricity consumption”; however, growing digitalisation of the EU economy and the uptake of artificial intelligence (AI) are likely to increase this percentage, with research group ICIS projecting data centers electricity demand to reach 5.7% of the total European demand by 2035. Although forecasts are complex given the relatively emergent nature of this sector, there is a consensus that the expansion of data centers may pose a number of challenges, especially in terms of grid capacity. At the same time, the expected boom of these facilities could consolidate existing trends (e.g. the uptake of PPAs as a key electricity sourcing tool) and facilitate new ones, such as multi-technology PPAs and investments in innovative renewable technologies (e.g. advanced geothermal).

PLENARY#2 - Keeping the lights on: redefining security of supply for a resilient electric future

As Europe’s energy landscape undergoes profound transformation, achieving a secure, resilient, and decarbonised electricity system is more critical than ever. This plenary session will explore how further electrification and decarbonisation can bolster security of supply in the face of evolving challenges. Drawing insights from Eurelectric’s report on Security of Supply, the session will highlight key external pressures, such as rising cybersecurity threats, procurement issues and escalating geopolitical tensions, testing the resilience of the energy sector.

In this context, the session will delve into redefining the concept of security of supply for an increasingly electrified energy framework. Panelists will discuss how a resilient supply strategy must balance diverse elements, including smart strategic autonomy, affordability, and consumer engagement, to ensure both adequacy and the much-needed flexibility in an ever more so interconnected and competitive European single market. Through this dialogue, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the actions required to ensure Europe’s secure energy future, balancing independence with reliability for both households and industries.

ELECTRIC TALK - Powering Intelligence

As artificial intelligence accelerates across industries, its impact on the energy system is both disruptive and transformative. In this era of Power Play, where energy security, geopolitical dynamics, and climate goals intersect, AI is emerging as a powerful lever to optimise, decentralise, and decarbonise our grids — but not without consequence. This session will explore the dual role of AI as both an enabler and a challenger to the clean energy transition. While AI helps streamline demand forecasting, optimise supply chains, and enhance grid resilience, it also drives a surge in electricity demand — especially from the exponential growth of data centers and compute-intensive applications across sectors.

PLENARY#3 - Power2People

Eurelectric launched a project to revise the 15 Pledges Initiative (2020) as well as the Power2People project (2021). The objective was to find out what progress has been made since the energy crisis with regards to consumer engagement and empowerment in the energy transition as well as to the concrete actions electricity suppliers are taking in developing solutions and services to support their customers. Particular focus was on identifying the barriers that are holding back consumers to engage and how they perceive the relationship with suppliers when it comes to contract choice, control over their energy consumption, and customer experience. These aspects were gauged together with the support of Accenture – our Knowledge Partner – through a survey addressed to consumers in 12 EU countries. Through the survey results, suppliers have gained a better understanding how to empower their customers in the energy transition and translated these insights into Eurelectric’s updated commitments to customers which will be accompanied by policy recommendations and examples of supplier use cases: Power2People.

Discussion with Markus Rauramo, Eurelectric President

EXECUTIVE DIALOGUE

Europe’s focus is intensely on competitiveness these days, making the winning formula for power sector players the one that maximises affordability and reliability while maintaining momentum in the energy transition. But different parts of Europe face different challenges to get there and they are not all starting from the same place. The Nordics are not Central and Eastern Europe, which are not Southeastern Europe.

For our Executive Dialogue, we will welcome CEOs to the stage from across the EU, alongside the Commission’s Director-General for Energy, to look at what EU-level action can help the entire Bloc, while also thinking about and discussing the catalysts needed in these diverse regions of the Continent for a competitive transition.
